2nd ANNUAL KEEP SIERRA CLEAN DAY TARGETS 2,000 LBS OF TRASH
Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort Hosts Mountain Clean Up Day To Get Ready For Winter

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - September 21, 2009 - Sierra™ Resort has planned its annual Keep Sierra Clean day for October 11, 2009 and is aiming to collect 2,000 pounds of trash from the slopes. Last year's clean up effort yielded over 1,820 pounds of trash including 3 snowboards, an iPod, a digital camera and a Blackberry.
Members of the community are invited to join Sierra Resort employees as they spread out to clean up the mountain. This year's collection effort will cover a broader area than the inaugural year, with some teams heading up one of the chairlifts, some covering the base area, and some focusing on critical stream zones. All of the trash will be weighed and collected, with prizes given in a variety of categories. There will be a BBQ at the end of the day to celebrate Keepín Sierra Clean.

"More than 150 people came out for this event last year. Lots of parents brought their children out to give back to the mountain for a day. There was so much positive energy," said Kevin Mitchell, Director of Ski & Snowboard School and the event organizer. "The sense of ownership that everyone has about this place proves we really are a local's mountain."

"We're hoping to beat last year's numbers this season - keeping 2,000 pounds of trash out of stream zones would have a major impact on our immediate environment," said General Manager John Rice. "It's so important for skiers and riders to take care of their mountain - we depend on our environment for our winter fun."

Participants should come prepared to navigate steep and sometimes rocky terrain with sturdy footwear. Work gloves are recommended. To help keep the event low-impact, participants should also bring their own water bottles.

At the conclusion of the event, there will be a tailgate ski swap in "B" Lot, where participants are invited to buy and sell ski and snowboard gear. There is no fee to participate in the swap, which will end at 3:00 p.m.

Event schedule:
10:00 a.m. registration begins
10:30 a.m. ride to the top of Sierra Resort
12:30 p.m. gather by the main lodge to weigh and collect trash
1:00 p.m. BBQ begins
